With a young family, we are often marveling over the exotic colours of a puffer fish, the banquet hall of a Welsh castle, or a mossy tuft on an ancient tree.
Inspired by exciting colour combinations found in some unusual places, I choose a pallet to work in and will create for my Rowan Berries collection, clusters, bracelets, rings, focal forms, and earrings to complement the set. For this I melt the glass in a very hot flame then layer the colours. The melted glass is like treacle and cooling it slightly allows me to sculpt it with tools, gravity, and the flame. The glass pieces are cooled slowly (a process called annealing) to harden them against structural weakness.
I hope my works will give years of wearing enjoyment, so I put extra care into the construction of each jewelery piece, winding links tight and smooth so they are not going to snag your knit wear. I use quality materials like sterling silver or gold, swarovski™ crystals, pearls, and semi precious stones to enhance my flame worked glass beads. Each finished work is a one of a kind wearable art piece.
Although they look fragile, they are remarkably durable and you will find they are made to a high quality and are easy to wear.
Other works may combine my flame work with other techniques such as cast glass and this is adding a new dimension to my work.
