I express my observations through glass rather than the written word. My work is essentially expressions of my imagination. I strive to capture the emotion, movement, colour and vitality of forms, rather than an exact replication.
My work is detailed, and I hope evocative. I am fascinated by the polarities in nature: dissonance versus harmony, man versus nature, the yin and yang of our natural world. Glass is a feminine material. Sensually offering polarities by its nature, magnifying or distorting, illuminating or obscuring, being both functional and strong or delicate and fragile.
Influences include the powerful beauty of nature and its soft feminine strength that lies quietly and reclaims its place, like Sleeping Beauty. I draw upon references to nature that are reflected in literary works such as Keats' " La Belle Dame sans Merci" or Shakespeare's "Hamlet".
We as humans strive to control, organise, form and manipulate all that we come in contact with, but when thwarted by circumstances, nature prevails and it is feminine, strong and beautiful.
